Bit Synchronization

The sender and receiver must not only use the same bit ate but must also be synchronized at the bit level. The duration of a bit should be exactly the same for the sender and receiver. Today, most protocols use self-synchronizing encoding schemes. Some protocols also add a sequence of redundant bits, called preamble bits, to the beginning of the data to help the receiver to synchronize itself with the sender at the bit level.
